PROFESSIONAL CONVERSATION RECOMMENDATIONS
Your M.A.P. presentation is going to be a 15-20 minute (depending on your school) discussion with a panel of two-three people discussing your career life plan after graduation. This is where you are going to SHINE so make this presentation creative, appealing and engaging.
How do you connect your credentials and experiences with your Education and Career Life Plan?
1) Introduction/Personal Profile (1-2 mins): Who are you? You will have time to present who you are now, your accomplishments, passions and goals. This can include a you tube clip, website, pictures, demonstration, or any other presentation means.
2) Skills/Interest Showcase (3-5 mins): Everybody loves to watch people in action...what can you share with our presenters? What kind of skills would you like to showcase? Here are a few examples...
a. If you are in the Fire Fighting Academy, you can show a video of yourself putting out a fire, come dressed in your fire gear, and/or bring tools in that you would normally use.
b. If you are interested in the Health Care Profession, share how you have spent time learning about the opportunities and pathways that are open to you...ie: candy striping, attending Health Care Conference, Job Shadowed a nurse, and/or demonstrate how to take a blood pressure with a cuff.
c. You have played and referred soccer for years, what skills have you learned from this experience? How can these skills used in the future? (Include pictures, videos, posts, etc)
d. If you would like to talk about what you are most proud of from your time here at KSS, that would also be a great conversation starter.
3) Conversation (5-10 mins): The remaining portion of your time will be a conversation
between you and the panels members building on what they have heard from you and filling in the gaps of your Career Life Plan. The interview prompts will include:
a. What other ways can your skills be used in your future?
b. What have you done in high school to prepare for post-graduation?
c. Discuss your short term goals to achieve your long term education career plan.
d. What type of post-secondary credentials are you striving for within the next 1-5 years?
e. What are the costs involved in your plan and how do you plan to pay for this?
f. What is your back up plan?
